Dental Veneers

Close up 3D rendering of a thin porcelain veneer being applied to a toothWhen it comes to veneers, then you might find yourself wondering two things: what they are, and why you would need them. Veneers are not as common as some of the other dental procedures that we talk about, but they are pretty important for people who need or want them. Our team at Pleasant Valley Dentistry wants to make sure that we talk about this lesser-known but still very important procedure in dentistry.

Veneers are able to help with cosmetic problems that are seen in your smile. If you have damaged teeth that are misshapen, then veneers might be a good way for you to fix the problem. Veneers are like sleeves for a book; they are plastic covers that slide over your teeth and give them a more normal look.

Why Do You Need Veneers?

When your front teeth are chipped, discolored, stained, or otherwise different from the rest of your teeth, it is natural to want to fix the problem. Dental veneers offer a quick and easy fix that can help with damaged front teeth that cannot be fixed any other way.

Our dentists make veneers out of porcelain by creating custom covers that easily slide onto your damaged teeth. Porcelain is one of the best materials to use in dentistry, namely because of its durability and because it is tooth-colored. Once you smile no one will be able to tell the difference.

Are You A Candidate For Veneers?

In order to get veneers, other than your damaged teeth, the rest of your mouth needs to be very healthy. Otherwise, we will need to treat any oral health issues first before we focus on your front teeth. Additionally, in order to get veneers, we need to get you out of the habit of clenching and grinding your teeth together. Veneers can pop off or break if this happens, and you do not want that to happen. Make sure to talk to our dentists if you clench or grind your teeth at night, and we will work with you to protect your veneers.

Additionally, you need to be aware that enamel needs to be removed in order to put veneers on. While our dentists try to remove as little as possible, it is still a step in the procedure that you need to know about. The enamel can not be added back on once we remove it.

Getting Veneers

After we reshape your teeth so they can accept the veneers comfortably, we make a mold of your teeth and then create the veneers in a dental lab. After that is done, you come back in and we place the veneers on the teeth and bond them. Then, you have got veneers and are ready to go. It is as easy as that!
